Burn Pit Reminder – April 2018

Reminder – Use of the Burn Pit at the Bartlett Jackson Transfer Station

Now that spring clean up is here, folks need to remember that it is brush only that is 5” or less in diameter, non-treated wood WITHOUT nails that can go in the burn pits. Also, all ribbons, decorations, and metal frames need to be removed from wreaths and trees. Wood that is painted, glued, pressboard or anything with nails CANNOT go into the burn pit. These items must go in the construction container and there is a fee depending on the amount.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Fire Permits 2018

FIRE PERMITS as of April 2, 2018

Fire permits are required for any outside burning where there is not a 100’ radius of ground completely covered with snow. A patch of snow or ice in your yard is not sufficient snow cover.

To obtain a fire permit you must:

Be at least 18 years old

Own the property where the fire will be lit

OR

Have WRITTEN permission signed by the property owner in hand

If you provide any false information or fail to have written permission from the property owner, this is the same as burning without a permit and this is punishable with up to 1 year in prison and/or a $2,000 fine.

Only CLEAN, UNTREATED WOOD less than 5” in diameter is allowed to be burned. No trash, cardboard, plywood, plastic, pressure treated lumber, building materials that have been attached to a structure or any wood over 5” in diameter including stumps and trees.

Have a sufficient water supply to immediately extinguish the fire at the site before lighting the fire.

Have the tools at the site where the fire is going to be lit before lighting the fire.

Make certain the weather is safe to burn, the fire is lit at the proper time based on size/type, and the fire is the proper distance away from any structure BEFORE the fire is lit. This is your responsibility.

Please make sure to follow all of the laws/rules of outside burning and Be Safe with Fire.

The Fire Department does charge for extinguishing any fire left unattended or a fire that escapes the control of the permittee. This can get to be very expensive and the property owner is responsible for these charges.

The permittee is also responsible for any property damage caused by outside burning so please check with your homeowner’s insurance company to make sure you are covered for this type of incident.
